~What do you do o3o
Hi.
I know that you're one of the busiest artists in the fandom, and only rarely have time to reply to messages, but I feel the very real need to leave a new reply to this image.
I can see that my comment that I made about this picture ten months ago still is sitting there, reminding me of where a journey began. This image has been criminally under-appreciated, and even though you called it "nothing too special" I must disagree.
Though any of your works are filled with an amazing clarity and a sense of life this is the one that has sat around my mind the longest. What is being portrayed here knocked on my mind for five months.
"Did Cup Cake just lay a dollop of frosting upon his nose? Why hasn't he removed it? Because she put it there and he loves her, of course... but how did their love begin? How has it been tested? What struggles have they faced?"
Being as I am one of those compulsive writers, I found myself exploring these questions. Five months ago I began pre-writing... today I finished posting the story that this image inspired.
You are no doubt aware of the old saying that goes, "A picture is worth a thousand words". I can tell you that is an under-estimate.
I can report to you the following. This picture is worth:
108,566 Words
17 Chapters
4 Sub-plots.
9 Principal characters including the Cakes, one main cast member, and three original characters
5 Months of my literary life
There are times when I doubt that artists like yourself (no disrespect intended) know just how much power you have over the creativity and development of others in the fandom. In the short amount of time it took you to make this image you set off a chain of literary creativity that essentially consumed my free writing time over a period of nearly half a year.
And I am grateful for it...
The story that this image inspired, A Sweet Taste of Cake, is my first "ship-fic", a story about their relationship. It's not just a story about them falling in love though... it's a story about their lives together, through all of their struggles, and how they relied on their love throughout their lives...
... love that is still evident all of these years later as she lays a dollop of frosting across the nose of her husband and smiles.
I am very, very grateful. Thank you so very much for making this image and giving me the impetus to go on that journey.
Love this work, ace job.
Now that I hear that the two have two twin toddles of their own, I can imagine their toddlers trying to help mommy and daddy by smearing icing on it (and licking it off).
