commission - regular business by egophiliac commission - regular business by egophiliac
Commission for :icontheoneyellow: of his ponysona, Star Counter, presenting a report to a very enthusiastic Luna (and a slightly-less-enthused Celestia). This is one of the most adorable OCs I've ever seen.

Those stained glass windows took FOREVER, oh my gosh (then I got carried away and slapped god rays and sparkles over the entire thing, I refuse to be ashamed).

Please do not use this image without permission of the commissioner. They paid for it, they get to call what it's used for.

So interesting! I love your artwork about lovely Royal Sisters!

Luna may be extremely excited to listen to new business after 1,000 years isolation.
Tia looks like a bit tired after doing this job alone for 1,000 years..

"well you see princess, we need to enact a expansionary monetary policy and order the reserve to buy some bonds form the ponies in order to lower the real interest rate and stimulate more consumer spending. that way, not only will ponies be spending more, but businesses will also look into investing in stocks that they couldn't previously which means better business throughout equestria and more money for all!"

Luna: "i concur!"
Celestia: "dangit, i lost again, hm? oh yeah, do that thing, yeah"
frong Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
LOL An accountant pony or something. That's certainly more original and clever than the average OC, for sure.
TheoneYellow Featured By Owner May 2, 2012
Oh why thank yo so much :3 You make me blush. I just thought hey someone needs to do the taxes in Equestria. Might as well make a pony base on me and my job xP
RaptorArts Featured By Owner May 3, 2012  Professional Artisan Crafter
Heh true but in reality taxes are pure evil taking far too much of our hard earned wages and having us work practically for pennies these days.

oh so true.

I would think that Luna would be the one not paying attention, being a gamer and all.

zaiali Featured By Owner May 2, 2012

Say that to my gamer score. lol.

D-jar Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
Before the "Luna is an obsessed gamer" thing she was usually 'seen' reading the laws and statistics of her kingdom, because she was shy and didn't want to meet other ponies.
zaiali Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
Shy? Fluttershy! yay! I like words!

But I guess your right. Maybe this was like a century before she found a joystick to play. (and not the sexual one!)

Is Celestia doing a crossword puzzle or something? She looks more interested in whatever's on that paper than the actual report...

Great picture, keep up the good work!

Luna's wings look like they're giving a thumbs up. Does she like doing paperwork that much? Or maybe she knows how good this picture looks.
Satoh Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
You know... no one has commented on the wonderful art deco stained glass you mentioned working so hard on... I can't abide that. I know, as an artist, how difficult it can be just to make the designs for such things, nonetheless make them look good.

For instance, some of the lines intersect and overlap other lines, which in a pencil drawing is a bad thing, but being able to intelligently leave some of them as such in the way you did on the windows, adds to the style of the stained glass.

Another note.
Each window is only two shades of the same color. Most stained glass is vibrant and colorful, but as we see from original source work-the show-the windows are actually quite subtle.

The windows each have a theme, and one that is mostly obvious. Far right, the solar and lunar cycle. Mid right, light shining on the globe from high above in the heavens. Mid left... this one is a little more difficult, but it appears to be a rainbow...

...or possibly Death Mountain from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Ahem... Far left, well... I can't see it... but it's pale pink... so...Ok I don't have an important point about that one... EXCEPT, that it's there, and not cut off entirely just to save time.

Now, on the walls, very faint, very subtle, there is scroll-work.
I admit that the first thing I saw was Excitedluna and Boredlestia, but the whole scene is spot on brilliant. The colors are muted but distinguishable, there's nary an outline to be seen, yet everything retains its shape identifiably (like those tables by the windows), and one more step... The colors aren't flat. They're gradated, but without being overtly so, just as in the show.

I hope I didn't miss anything. The whole pic is great, but I felt the background needed some attention for it's stunning accuracy of effect.

If course... I almost did. The light rays, crepuscular or not, are another little touch of canonicity in the style of the backdrop. They're all over the place in the show, but so subtle they just 'look natural' to the scene and you don't even notice they're there until they're pointed out.

Now I think I've covered everything.
Final notes... great work.

Aww, thank you! Backgrounds are one of those things where 99% of the time they're meant to blend into the picture, so doing it right means no one notices. I take it as a good sign. :icontwilighthappyplz: I adore the backgrounds in the show, I think they've really influenced how I do my own scenes, even when I'm not doing pony fanart.

The blue window, with the globe, is directly based on one from the show, although I took some creative liberty with it -- the rest are more original. c: The one directly behind the blackboard, I was thinking Sonic Rainboom, although I was trying to keep it subtle so it wouldn't distract from the foreground.
Satoh Featured By Owner May 1, 2012
Actually I figured it was a rainboom, but the Zelda thing seemed funnier at the time.

The background looks authentic. Very well done.
