This is a monster of a file. For some reason I decided it would be the BEST IDEA EVER to work at an insane size, so this encompasses five PSD files and roughly 450MB (which is pretty ridiculous considering there isn't really any detail or complexity to it). It nearly killed my computer a few times and ultimately convinced me to upgrade my memory, so I guess something good came of it, anyway.

This is a very heartfelt piece. I can see it happening as follows: Celestia allows Luna (or rather, NightMare Moon) to have an extended night, in the hopes that once she's had her fill of "endless" night, she would let up and allow the day-night cycle to resume. Unfortunately, as time passed, Celestia realised that Luna was lost in resentment, when her little ponies struggled to grow food, and began to starve and freeze to death. With a heavy heart, she took up the Elements of Harmony which she and Luna had used to seal away Discord, and sealed Luna in her beloved Moon. And so Celestia was left heartbroken without her sister for a thousand years.

I can easily see Celestia being tormented for having had to seal Luna away, wondering if she'd waited longer, she could have found a way to banish NightMare Moon from Luna, but aware of the fact that if she waited too long to figure it out, there would be too little life left in Equestria for it to matter.

(What's up with the whole "the stars will aid in her escape" thing, though? Will that be called back to when/if the villain behind Discord, NightMare Moon, and the Windigos is revealed?)

I always thought the stars were referring to Twilight given her cutie mark looks like stars. As in Twilight will aid Luna's escape from Nightmare Moon.
